Why Overall Wellness is Important: IMM Walk 4 Wellness Recap

Updated: Feb 26

Everything about you is important. Not just your fitness, and not just your spirit health, but your overall wellness.

May is a really big month for mental health, so at IMM, we believe that your OVERALL WELLNESS and health is important. On Saturday, May 6, 2023, an intimate group of females, plus one gentleman, met IMM Founder, Matia Buggs, at the beautiful surroundings of Allen Pond Park in Bowie, Maryland at our Walk 4 Wellness.

The group had an icebreaker to introduce themselves and state why mental health and full wellness is important to them. Next up, we moved into our "Raise the White Flag" project, which was a fun spin on what raising the white flag really means, which is conceding to defeat.

We used our time to decorate our flags with uplifting and motivating stickers (which came from Amazon might I add), and then proceeded to take a few laps around the park and enjoy the scenery. It was a beautiful day! What was even more beautiful was hearing the stories from the attendees and how they are maintaining themselves, mind, body, spirit, and soul.

Here are a few things you can do to promote healthier wellness:

  • Meditate for 5-10 minutes

  • Talk to God/Pray and/or ask someone to pray for you

  • Cook healthy recipes at home

  • Clean areas around the house and organize your closets

  • Walk/jog around the neighborhood

  • Go for a swim, skate, or ride a bike

  • Participate in a virtual bodyweight fitness class

  • Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual with no phone attached

  • Listen to uplifting podcasts

Overall, we had a great time and this may be the start of an ANNUAL EVENT!

And remember, 55% of adults with a mental illness have not yet received treatment, and 5.44% of adults experience severe mental illness over their lifespan. So please do ALL you can to take care of yourselves, and be a support system for anyone in your life who needs the support as well.
